KEITH SAYS YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE TO WAIT MORE
THAN FOUR WEEKS FOR A SCRIPT

The first annual report and national plan of the UK Anti-Drugs Co-ordinator (Drug Tsar to you), Keith Hellawell, has just come out. Alongside a load of management guff about ‘Key Performance Targets’ (things the government is saying have to be achieved), some of which are either unachievable or unmeasurable, is the following gem:

“In my view, people with drug problems should not have to wait longer than four weeks from the point of referral to enter treatment”.

So, it’s official. Keith says you shouldn’t have to wait for more than a month. If you have contacted a drug treatment agency and are still on their waiting list after more than four weeks, then Monkey suggests you write to Keith and tell him.
He needs the feedback, believe us. His address is below:

Keith Hellawell, Anti-Drugs Co-ordination Unit,
Room 61 A/2, Government Offices, Gt. George Street, London SW1A 1AT

Ask him to send it to your local DAT Chair for comments. And if you want to write to your own DAT Chair directly, but don’t know who it is or how to contact them, just send it to Monkey, PO Box 124 M33 7 SB and we will forward it for you.
