Monkey is a coalition of professionals, users and ex-users from the Greater Manchester area of the United Kingdom. We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to furthering and defending the interests of heavy end drug users, former users and carers in Greater Manchester and other areas in the North West of England. Now that the English drugs strategy is seeking to mirror the US 'war on drugs' approach, the need for a voice for these groups has never been more necessary.

Monkey takes the view that addiction and problematic drug use are largely related to social and economic exclusion. It sees the 'war on drugs' as a 'war on drug users', part of the growing trend in deindustrialised societies towards control of the new 'dangerous classes' in society. Monkey's alternative to 'drug wars' is a policy of social inclusion. We need to lessen, not increase, the stigmatisation and marginalisation of problem drug users and their families.Monkey exists hand-to-mouth, subsisting on small grants
and commissions.

Anyone wishing to give financial support to Monkey should contact us via the e-mail address below. We are also interested in hearing from user/ex-user groups from other parts of Europe and the rest of the world. Our e-mail address is at the bottom of the page but please, DO NOT SEND ANY ATTACHMENTS! Our postal address is: PO BOX 124, SALE, M33 7FD, ENGLAND.
